DTN COMMENTS: A few deals have been reported in parts of Nebraska this 
afternoon at $372 to $372.50, but not enough to establish an accurate 
trend for the week. Kansas and Texas remain quiet at this point. Packer 
inquiry should continue to improve as the day progresses. A more 
significant trade volume will likely be delayed until later today or more 
likely tomorrow. Some live asking prices are noted around $240-plus in 
parts of the South, and few scattered dressed asking prices are being 
reported in Eastern Nebraska at $380. 

Today's slaughter totaled 118,000 head, 7,000 more than last week, and 
1,000 above a year ago. Live cattle futures closed moderately to sharply 
higher, up 65 to 202, while feeders ended the day mostly sharply higherup 
27 to 147, the lone exception was the spot October contract which ended 
the day off 05. Beef cutouts are expected to close mixed with light to 
moderate box movement.
